So you want to learn how to book Aer Lingus flights using your Avios? Well you’re in luck! Aer Lingus finally updated their website for you to be able to book award flights with Avios without having to head over to the British Airways website to do it.
This is great because according to Aer Lingus’ own website “On every Aer Lingus flight we reserve a minimum of four seats that can be booked using Avios as the main payment method.”
They offer great value given that you can go from Dublin to New York from just 13,000 Avios and fees. But let’s get real, that’s not what we’re after. We want those 50,000 Avios business class flights baby! They’re great for getting to Europe won’t cost you an arm and a leg in taxes and fees unlike flying to LHR (Heathrow Airport). Here’s Aer Lingus Award Chart
So the steps are simple
- Create an Aer Lingus account on their main website
- Wait for the verification email
- Once you get your “Welcome to AerClub email head over to Aer Lingus reward portal (rewards.aerlingus.com)
- Log in and begin searching for that availability!
You will need to know what airports have direct flights to Ireland. Most of them fly directly to Dublin. The tool that I recommend for this is FlightConnections where you can:
- Select Aer Lingus as the Airline
- See what specific airports fly there
- Most importantly, see what days the flights are
Once you have all that information head over to the Aer Lingus reward portal and begin your search.
Just to help you out, these are the airports currently flying to DUB: YYZ, SEA, SFO, LAX, DEN, MSP, ORD, MCO, MIA, CLE, IAD, PHL, JFK, EWR, BDL, BOS
It might take a little back and forth playing with the dates and airports but you’ll find some availability! Don’t forget that once you do, head over to Aerolopa to check out the plane seat maps. Like this one! I’d much rather have seat 3K over 3A
How to Earn Aer Lingus Avios
Now I’d be a terrible guide if I didn’t at least mention how to earn Aer Lingus Avios. Now while there are many ways to earn them, transferring them from your credit cards is going to be the easiest. Luckily Chase, Bilt and American Express transfer over to Aer Lingus Avios at a 1:1 rate. Two of the cards I recommend the most come from these card issuers the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the American Express Gold Card.
If you pay rent don’t sleep on the Bilt Master Card though.
Now if for any reason you either don’t have those cards. You have the ability to transfer over to Qatar, British Airways or Iberia. Since they all use Avios you’re able to transfer Avios between those airlines programs.
